If you've ever wanted to buy any new equipment, you'll know how tempting it is to order blindly from the internet and save yourself that trip round all the music shops. Here at Guitar Lessons Northampton we have scoured the city for the best stores, take a look and get down to one of these shops for invaluable advice and a hands-on test before you make that all-important purchase.

PMT Northampton is located at 86 Bridge Street, NN1 1PD, so is really central to the city. With two large floors absolutely stacked with gear, you're sure to feel like a kid in a candy shop at PMT Northampton. The lower floor presents up to 500 guitars and basses on show as well as pianos and keyboards, while the upper floor houses the drum kits for those percussively-minded among you. What's more, there are amplifiers available downstairs for you to test out in the private demo booths giving you unprecedented access to top-quality instruments and equipment - something that really is crucial in making that new purchase.

St Giles Music is a music store that has been established for around 24 years, yet the family-run enterprise has over 50 years of experience in the music business! The shop stocks a wide range of six- and four-stringed instruments, from acoustic to electro-acoustic to full electric, suiting whatever sound you want to achieve. Not only this, but there is an extensive range of pianos, other stringed instruments, brass and woodwind and sheet music. If you are just after a new guitar for your bedroom recording or you need to learn that latest riff you heard, St. Giles Music at 16 St Giles Terrace, NN1 2BN is a great place to start! Also, if you prefer the instrument with character, the shop offers a great range of second-hand instruments, enabling you to have quality on a budget.

Phoenix Soundworks can be found at The Square, Earls Barton, NN6 0NA, and prides itself on its level of customer service. The owner, Duncan, concentrates on providing the best guitar repairs and sound system rental service in Northamptonshire. It is an ideal shop to go to should you need an instrument or amp repair. This includes re-fretting, free polishing and repairing headstock breaks. For more extensive work Phoenix Soundworks can recommend a third party luthier to assist.
